Usually when I see press releases from broadband companies, the information found in them details new or extended city franchise agreements or new technology in general.

Now, I am seeing puff pieces from Fairpoint which deal with several blocks receiving basic internet speeds:

FairPoint Communications has expanded broadband to 50 homes and businesses in Stockbridge. FairPoint’s new fiber-based, high-capacity network offers customers a better, faster way to communicate. FairPoint provides residential speed options up to 15Mbps.

Fairpoint called this speed increase part of their “next generation network“…..wait, what? THAT is your next generation network?

If someone wants to watch a movie in 4K on Netflix, you need at least 25Mbps. At this rate, Fairpoint customers should be ready for 4KTV in….a few decades?
